279 Holy Week Prayers for a Complete Journey from Palm Sunday to Easter
Holy Week changes everything. One week holds more weight than any other seven days in human history. You have probably heard the story many times. Jesus rides in on a donkey. He clears the temple. He shares a last meal. He prays in a garden. He dies on a cross. He rises from the grave. Familiar story, but have you ever prayed through it day by day? Have you let each moment sink into your heart?
Most people rush from Palm Sunday to Easter without stopping. They wave palm branches, then show up for the resurrection. They miss the agony of Thursday, the silence of Saturday, the weight of Friday. Those days matter. Jesus lived every single one of them for a reason. Praying through Holy Week changes how you see the cross. It changes how you receive the empty tomb.
This guide gives you 279 prayers for Holy Week. Each prayer connects to a specific moment in the biblical narrative. You will pray through the triumphal entry, the temple cleansing, the anointing at Bethany, the Last Supper, the garden of Gethsemane, the trials, the crucifixion, the burial, and the resurrection. Every day of Holy Week gets its own section.
You do not need to pray all 279 at once. Holy Week lasts eight days if you include Palm Sunday and Easter. Break these prayers across those days. Pick ten to fifteen for each day. Pray them slowly. Let the words linger. Imagine yourself in the scenes. Feel what the disciples felt. Let the weight of the week press on your heart before the joy of Sunday explodes.
Pray these prayers out loud when you can. Read the Scripture verses before each section. Sit in silence after each prayer. Holy Week is not a performance. It is a pilgrimage. Walk it carefully.
Before we begin, understand why prayer matters this week. Prayer slows you down. It keeps you from skipping the hard parts. Anyone can celebrate Easter. Holy Week teaches you to sit in the pain before the party. That sitting changes you.
Let us walk through the week together.
Palm Sunday – The Triumphal Entry
Jesus rides into Jerusalem on a donkey. Crowds spread cloaks and palm branches. They shout Hosanna, which means save us now. They expect a political king. They do not understand the kind of saving Jesus came to do. These prayers help you enter Jerusalem with Jesus.
-
Lord Jesus, I welcome You as my King. Ride into the crowded streets of my heart like You rode into Jerusalem.
-
Father, let me not miss my moment of visitation. Open my eyes to recognize Your Son when He comes near.
-
Holy Spirit, strip away my expectations of how God should save. Prepare me for unexpected deliverance.
-
Jesus, You came on a donkey, not a warhorse. Teach me that humility wears the real crown.
-
Hosanna in the highest. Save me now, Lord, but save me the way You know I need, not the way I demand.
-
The crowd shouted praise one day and curses the next. Keep my loyalty steady. Do not let me turn.
-
You wept over Jerusalem even as they cheered. Let me hold joy and sorrow together this week.
-
Father, open the mouths of stones if I refuse to praise. Let my worship never be silent.
-
Jesus, You came to the city that would kill You. Give me courage to walk toward hard places.
-
The palms waved for a moment, then withered. Let my praise outlast the excitement of the moment.
-
Hosanna means save now. Save me from my shallow worship. Save me from fair weather following.
-
You rode in low so I could rise high. Thank You for the exchange I do not deserve.
-
The disciples did not understand until later. Let me embrace mystery without demanding all answers now.
-
Every cloak laid before You represented someone’s outer layer. I lay down my reputation, my pride, my defenses.
-
The crowd asked, who is this? Answer that question in my heart this week.
-
You came to Your own, and Your own did not receive You. Let me receive You fully today.
-
Hosanna for the victory coming, even though the victory looks nothing like we expected.
-
The donkey carried what no warhorse could carry. Use my ordinary life for Your extraordinary purposes.
-
Zechariah promised a king riding on a donkey. Fulfill every prophecy meant for my life.
-
The children cried out in the temple. Restore my childlike wonder at who You are.
-
The Pharisees wanted silence. Shut down every voice that tells me to keep my worship quiet.
-
You come to cleanse the temple next. Prepare my heart for the cleansing coming tomorrow.
-
Hosanna in the highest heaven. Let my praise reach where I cannot see.
-
From this moment, You walked toward the cross. Let nothing turn me away from following.
-
The week starts with praise and ends with power. Walk me through every step between.
-
You knew what awaited You in five days. Yet You came anyway. Give me that kind of determined love.
-
The palm branches symbolized victory. Let me carry symbols of Your victory into my daily battles.
-
Hosanna, Son of David. You have royal blood and a servant’s heart. Make me both royal and serving.
-
The crowd did not know what they were saying. I say it knowingly. Save me, Lord.
-
Holy Week begins. Do not let me check out early. Keep my heart engaged until the sunrise.
Monday – The Temple Cleansing and the Fig Tree
Jesus returns to Jerusalem and finds the temple turned into a marketplace. Money changers exploit worshipers. Jesus overturns tables. He also curses a fig tree that looks healthy but bears no fruit. These prayers confront the things that turn worship into business and appearance into emptiness.
-
Lord Jesus, enter my temple today. Overturn every table where I buy and sell instead of worship.
-
Drive out the money changers in my heart. Remove the greed that pretends to be devotion.
-
My body is Your temple. Cleanse it of anything that turns sacred space into a marketplace.
-
The fig tree had leaves but no fruit. Show me where I look healthy but produce nothing for Your kingdom.
-
You made a whip and drove them out. Give me holy anger against the sins I have tolerated.
-
My house shall be called a house of prayer. But I have made it a den of distractions. Cleanse me.
-
The blind and lame came to You in the temple after the cleansing. Let hurting people find healing in my cleansed heart.
-
You healed them there. Do not just clean me out. Fill the empty space with healing power.
-
The chief priests wanted the children silenced. Let the next generation praise You loudly.

-
The children shouted Hosanna in the cleansed temple. Let my cleansed heart release pure praise.
-
You saw through the fig tree’s leaves. See through my pretenses and call out what is real.
-
When I pray, remove every distraction that turned prayer into performance.
-
The money changers fled. Let every sin that profits from my weakness flee from me.
-
You did not negotiate with them. Do not let me negotiate with my pet sins.
-
The temple took forty six years to build. Cleanse my heart faster than any construction crew.
-
You looked at everything in the temple before leaving. Examine every corner of my life.
-
The fig tree withered from the roots. Pull up my sin from the roots, not just the branches.
-
Have faith in God, You said. I choose to have faith in You, not in my ability to clean myself.
-
Forgive me if I forgive others. Remove every unforgiving root that clogs my prayers.
-
The chief priests feared You because the crowd was amazed. Let my life amaze people for the right reasons.
-
You returned to Bethany each night. Give me refuge between battles.
-
Monday cleanses what Sunday celebrated. Finish the cleansing work You started.
